What's In A Name

Our two sons' names have one thing in common. They are both derived from combination of a saint's name and a character in the epic King Arthur. We chose the patron saints of their mother's home town who are St. Peter and St. Paul.

St. Peter, also known as Simon, is the leader of the 12 apostles of Christ. He is considered as the rock of the Christian faith. Because of his strong faith he was able to walk with the Lord on the surface of the sea water.

St. Paul, known as the 13th apostle is also called Saul. He was on his way to Damascus when he was converted. He saw a very bright light and fell to the ground hearing the voice of God. He was one of the most notable missionaries of the early Christians.

Tristan and Lancelot are known to be dragon slayers in the legendary story of Arthur and the knights of the round table in search of the holy grail. They are both brave and skillful warriors.

Hence, the names Tristan Paul and Simon Lance. Both names carrying the symbols of a dragon and a saint.

Tristan and The Class of 1990 (SCBHABA 2008)

Last Sunday I took Tristan to my old school, University of San Carlos - Boys' School, for the first time. It was our second game in the annual San Carlos Boys' High Alumni Basketball Association (SCBHABA) tournament. That's him in a black batman shirt beside me. Next to me are my team mates and batch mates of class 1990 whose names are Troy, Jonathan, Patrick, and Quinicot (I'm sorry I forgot his first name). Right below us are Terry, Jason, Eduardo, Engel James, Buddy, Marc, Ace (The Vice Mayor) and finally Chris (the lone warrior at the forefront).

'Daddy, is this your school?' he asked as we were walking under the covered walk passing through the main gate of the campus. 'Yes', I answered, 'this was my old school.' 'Why is your school so old?' he asked again as we were getting inside the multi-purpose stadium or gym. 'Well', I said, 'I went to study my high school here almost twenty years ago', I added, 'but she's even older than me'. I don't know if he understood it but he seemed to content himself with my reply and just kept silent and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon watching our game.

Although we lost again (our second straight) but it was a close fight. Maybe next time we could win. Wish us luck!

Power Ranger Tristan

This is Tristan Paul, photo taken last Halloween 2007. He's in a power ranger costume. He is 5 years old and goes to kindergarten II. He knows to read and likes to draw and sing. I'm proud of him because he gets good grades in school. Thanks to his Mom, my loving wife, who spends her time at home after office work helping him study his lessons and do his homework.

Simon's 1 year old!

This photo was taken last January 21,2008 on Simon Lance's first birthday bash. He's getting bigger and heavier pretty fast. The last time we checked he weighs a whopping 13kg! Right now he is just learning to walk. He could walk as far as about 1 - 2 meters, taking one step at a time. I'm really fond of him because he is so full of energy, he likes to dance along with Barney's songs, claps and waves his hands a lot. He loves to eat too! But he doesn't like food supplements. Every time we let him take one there's always going to be a big trouble. It would take two adults to administer his vitamins! Yeah, pretty strong for a one year old.
